TWO years on from ground being broken on the Bewsey and Dallam Hub site, there is no sign of any further progress being made on the project.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the £2.4m facility was held on the land off Longshaw Street back on March 14 2016.

But no construction work has taken place on the site since then.

The hub - including a fitness suite, library, pool and healthcare services - was originally given a planned opening date of summer 2017.

Now, two years after ground was first broken, Warrington Borough Council says that it is still working on ‘revised plans’ to deliver the Bewsey and Dallam Hub.

Delays have been blamed on the ‘difficult economic climate’, with further announcements on the scheme expected to be made in the coming months.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesman said: “We would like to give assurances to the local community that we remain committed to delivering a hub in Bewsey and Dallam.

“The difficult economic climate has given this project additional challenges.

“However, we are currently working hard on revised plans which make best use of our resources and which focus on delivering high quality community and lifestyles facilities for local people.

“We will be providing an update on the hub project in late spring.”

In February last year, it was revealed that the Bewsey and Dallam Hub project - which also boasted allotments and a playground - had been delayed because of ‘higher than expected costs’

This led to Livewire putting the contract for construction out to tender for a second time in order to obtain a ‘more competitive price’, with the scheduled opening date moved to spring 2018.

No revised timetable for the completion of the project has been given since that date.
