GREYHOUND Trust Mersey celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year and is holding a special day this weekend as it marks its 800th adoption.

Shane, Wendywoo and Axel will all leave the kennels for their new homes on Saturday.

There are currently 12 greyhounds who need adopting from Rose Tree Kennels in Cuerdley, near Penketh, but the charity has a long waiting list with a one-in-one-out system.

The trust is run purely by volunteers, who do it for the love of the dogs.

Volunteer Joanne Johnson said: “Greyhounds make wonderful pets, they only need two 20-minute walks each day as they are built for speed, not long distance.”

Two greyhounds from the kennels have appeared at the Liverpool Empire and Manchester Opera House this month, starring in an Ellen Kent production.

On Saturday, the three dogs will be given toys and treats before saying goodbye to the kennels.
