POLICE have increased patrols in the area to reassure the community following a report of a man acting 'suspiciously' near a primary school on Oakwood Avenue yesterday, Thursday.

Officers were alerted by a member of the public who raised concerns about the behaviour of a man yesterday afternoon.

When he was approached by the concerned witness he left the area.

Police have confirmed that no offences were committed and the man didn’t approach any children.

No further complaints have been made to the force.

It is understood a number of parents at St Elphin’s Primary were warned about the incident after the matter was brought to the school's attention.

A spokesman for Liverpool Diocese and Cathedral issued a statement on behalf of the school.

He said: “Following a reported incident at a nearby school, parents of children attending St Elphin’s Primary School were informed of the matter.

“We believe that issuing this information enables parents to make informed choices regarding the safety of their children according to our safeguarding procedures.”
