WARRINGTON South Labour members were involved in a 'lively discussion' over a late motion in support of long-term funding for Room at the Inn homeless shelter.

The issue came before Warrington South Constituency Labour Party (CLP) at its meeting at Bold Street Methodist Church last Friday, January 12.

Cllr Amanda King (LAB – Great Sankey South) hoped to table an emergency motion to ring-fence funding for the shelter, on Winmarleigh Street.

But, following a discussion among members, it was deferred.

Warrington South CLP chairman Cllr Steve Wright said: "At a large meeting on January 12 there was a lively discussion as to whether a late motion in support of long-term funding for Room at the Inn should be treated as emergency business.

"The meeting resolved that the motion did not fit the criteria, so it was not debated.

"It was agreed that a discussion on homelessness would be included on the agenda of the next CLP meeting on March 9.

"The meeting completed all its business on time and the raffle raised a good sum of money towards keeping up the fight against this disgraceful Tory Government."

Cllr King added: "I can confirm that Warrington South Labour Party members will be discussing the issue of homelessness and long-term funding for Room at the Inn at our next meeting."

Labour member Moazzam Hussain, who is the secretary of Warrington Ethnic Communities Association, also highlighted the 'difficulties that the homeless are facing and the dire need for Room at the Inn to continue its work with the homeless' across the town during the meeting.
