A MUM was attacked in front of her children when a gang masquerading as police officers raided her home in Old Hall.

Investigations are ongoing after three men forced their way into the house on Hudson Close yesterday, Thursday, at 6.45pm and confronted the victim and her children.

The gang initially claimed they were from the police before assaulting the woman and stealing items from the house.

The victim managed to activate the house alarm and the offenders ran off towards Old Hall Road.

The men were wearing dark clothing including black woolly hats, jackets and trousers with their faces covered.

Two of the offenders were described as being around 5ft 3ins and 5ft 7ins.

DC Alex Reeves, of Warrington CID, said: “This offence terrified the victim and left her and the children shaken in their own home.

"I want to urge anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward and call 101.

“I want to take this opportunity to remind residents to protect themselves against bogus callers and officials by considering keeping their front doors locked even when at home and I would also advise fitting a chain on the front door.

“If anyone calls at your door claiming to be from a company or public service, please ask them to show you their identification badge.

"All genuine callers will carry one and won’t mind if you ask.

“Officers who aren’t in uniform will still have their warrant identification card.

"When looking at the identity card, check they look like the person on the card and close the door while you do this.

"If you are not expecting them and they have not shown you an identity card, don't let them in.

"If you have any doubts then keep them out of your house and contact the police immediately."
