AN aspiring baker from Great Sankey has been whipping up baked treats in aid of assistance dog charity, Dogs for Good.

Kind-hearted Rosie Pike, of Hood Lane North, has recently presented Dogs for Good with a cheque for £321.50 after organising a bake sale and a sponsored walk.

Rosie, who wants to be a baker when she grows up, decided to sell a selection of cakes for the charity after a family friend started fostering assistance dog puppies in their first year of training.

The 13-year-old also completed a sponsored walk with her family and friends on December 18.

Dogs for Good provides services such as assistance dogs, family dog support, workshops and community therapy dogs.

The charity must raise £12,000 to fund each dog and receives no Government funding, relying entirely on generous donations and fundraising by supporters and staff.

Rosie’s proud father Grahame Pike said that he’s ‘made up’ with the work that Rosie is doing to spread the word about assistance dogs.

The charity has also invited her to their next awareness day later this year.

Mr Pike said: “People straight away think that the dogs are for the blind but they are assistance dogs.

“They help people in wheelchairs and youngsters with autism who need a friend, which I think really touched Rosie.”

Animal lover Rosie, whose family has two dogs, is planning to continue her fundraising campaign in the next few months for the charity.
