HUNGRY shoppers were queuing outside of the shop as Tim Hortons opened in Golden Square this morning, Wednesday.

The Canadian coffee chain opened its first English store on Bury New Road in Manchester earlier this week with more stores due to open in the Greater Manchester area before the end of the year.

And a number of Canadians now living in Warrington were some of the first through the door.

Leanne Sander and Julia Kaut said they had been waiting for seven years for a Tim Hortons to open in the UK after moving to Great Sankey from Toronto.

And Leanne added it is the coffee that makes Tim Hortons so special.

Leanne added: "The coffee tastes so good but it's the cream that they put in the coffee.

"You don't get cream in the same way in this country.

"The Timbits are great as well.

"I've been a Tim Hortons stalker since I heard they were opening.

"I went all the way to Glasgow for the first opening in this country.

"I just hope it does really well so it can expand more."

The store is in the former Jane Norman unit near Debenhams and has employed more than 30 people.

The first Tim Hortons restaurant in the UK opened on Argyle Street in Glasgow at the start of June.

Founded by its namesake, a top professional ice hockey player, Tim Hortons is now one of Canada’s most iconic brands with nearly eight out of 10 cups of coffee sold across Canada are served at Tim Hortons.

The menu includes freshly brewed coffee, espresso-based beverages, hot chocolate, French Vanilla and classic frozen Iced Capp drinks as well as baked goods, breakfast and lunch items and the signature Timbits - bite-sized doughnuts which come in a variety of flavours.
