WARRINGTON Borough Council has approved a ‘ludicrous’ proposal for a Fearnhead house’s garage to be turned into a sandwich shop despite objections.
Consent for the garage on Station Road North to be converted into a sandwich shop has been given by the council.
David Hunt, of Radley Lane in Houghton Green, had applied for planning permission for a change of use of the 32sq m building.
The garage had previously been used as a butchers shop before its owners retired in 2007 and converted the premises into a garage.
A number of residents objected to the plan – including Leanne Dysart, who described the proposal as ‘ludicrous’ – while Cllr Diana Bennett also opposed the ‘inappropriate’ scheme.
John Haines, of Station Road North, said in his objection: “There is already a parking and litter problem in Station Road North and another retail outlet will only make this worse.
“There are already at least three outlets in the immediate area which sell sandwiches and other food to go, so another outlet would seems to be surplus to requirements.”
