A VOLUNTEER-led scheme to help the homeless, lonely and vulnerable at Christmas is returning for the 26th successive year.

Warrington Open Door At Christmas opens at St John's Church on Wilderspool Causeway from Christmas Day until New Year's Day.

Over the eight day period the church is open from 9.30am until 3.30pm with lunch served at 12.30pm.

Andy Willis, from WODAC, said: "In Warrington, there are many people that are homeless and isolated throughout the year and at Christmas it is often more difficult to find the support they need. This time of year people feel even more alone and in need of support and help.

"WODAC offers friendship and support to all members of the community. We believe that we play a vital role in providing help to improve many people’s lives at a time of year which would otherwise be very lonely and miserable."

As well as lunch guests can take part in party games and quizzes and other activities organised this year include a hairdresser, beautician, karaoke, singers and a craft workshop.

All volunteers work for free and the food, money and services are donated by members of the community, businesses and schools.

Anyone who needs transport to get to WODAC over the Christmas period should call 07933 029976.

All guests and volunteers must be 18 or over to attend/help.

If you feel you can help or would like to donate money, food or clothing call the same number or donate through the website wodac.org.uk, which includes a list of items currently needed.

If you wish to volunteer via our website. All volunteers must complete a volunteer registration form.
