A GREAT-GRANDDAD who has served the community for more than three decades has been victimised in his own home by a gang of youths.

Pensioner Arthur Robinson, who was a member of Woolston Parish Council for 30 years, was left with no option but to call the police after his home in Woolston was targeted for the third time in two weeks.

The 81-year-old, who has lived in the area for 50 years, said: “It first happened on October 7.

“I could hear a gang of kids walking past the house and down a footpath at the side of the property.

“I heard a couple of bangs and I just thought it was fireworks.

“I only realised when one of my neighbours knocked on my door to say they had smashed down the fence.”

Despite Arthur’s son fixing the damaged property shortly after the incident, the group has returned to cause further damage to the fence.

“It was the following Friday when my son came down from Sheffield to fix the fence but it was the same performance on the Saturday night – they had smashed the fence again,” said the dad-of-three, who has 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

“I feel stressed and upset.

“In the 1980s Warrington New Town wanted to build houses on the park. I spoke out to keep the land for the kids to use.

“I served the community for so many years and I have sat on various committees and this is how the younger generation rewards me.

“You just don’t know when they will come back.”

Arthur’s granddaughter Lucy Whitfield posted an appeal on social media to try to catch those involved and shame their parents into action.

Her warning has already been shared hundreds of times on Facebook with many more commenting on the post after she raised concerns about anti-social behaviour and vandalism in the area.

She said: “My granddad has lived in Woolston for more than 50 years.

“Now an 81-year-old man, who is living on his own, has spent the last two weekends in his house at night frightened while 30-plus kids kick his fences in on their way to Woolston Park.

“This is not acceptable.”

Police have confirmed officers were called at 12.50pm on Sunday, October 8 to reports of criminal damage at an address in Woolston between 10pm and 10.15pm on Saturday, October 7.

Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
