A JUNIOR rugby team have raised thousands of pounds with a sponsored swim after their nine-year-old teammate was diagnosed with cancer.
Joe McGann, from Grappenhall, was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumour in May, with doctors operating to remove the cancer days later.
Now, the nine-year-old faces another operation – a resection of his trachea which will remove remaining cancerous cells – at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in the New Year.
His teammates from Rylands Sharks u9s held a sponsored swim at Woolston Neighbourhood Hub to raise money for the hospital and an upcoming rugby tournament.
And the young swimmers raised a total of £2,000 with their fundraiser on Sunday, October 8.
