FOR this category, we want to hear about the achievements of Warrington’s finest on the sport field and in furthering sport in the community.

Celebrating some of the town’s unsung heroes, our Warrington Guardian Inspiration Awards nominees will gather at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in November to enjoy a two-course meal before prizes are handed out.

This year’s categories include teacher of the year, sportsman, contribution to the community, teenager, charity champion, charity of the year, act of courage, volunteer and our special inspiration lifetime achievement award.

Here's why Lisa Jefferies won last year's Sportsperson of the Year award.

From small acorns a growing running club was formed by Lisa Jefferies which now has more than 300 members and more than 1,000 supporters and followers.

As well as launching and running Warrington Running Club Lisa has encouraged and supported countless people to become fit and active, gain confidence, lose weight and achieve their own goals, as well as raising money for charity. Now more than 100 runners can be seen pounding the streets of Westbrook wearing primrose and blue each week.

The club ethos that Lisa has created has encouraged many new friendships to be formed – for many it is a lifeline which has helped them through difficult times.
