A POLICE car has crashed into a town centre pub.
Eyewitnesses reported that the police vehicle had travelled past the Postern Gate before hitting a van and crashing into the Friar Penketh.
One witness, who was in the pub at the time of the incident, said: "The car came around the corner from the Postern Gate at high speed and crashed into a works van before hitting the pub, then everyone ran outside."
A police cordon has been set up around the scene and officers remain in the area.
Police have confirmed that a full investigation is under way following the incident at 2.50pm on Barbauld Street involving a police car which was dealing with an emergency call.
The police vehicle, a marked Hyundai i30, collided with a parked silver Volkswagen Transporter van.
The driver was inside the van at the time of the collision.
A police spokesman added: "The collision also caused as small amount of debris to fall onto the pavement and hit two pedestrians who were stood nearby.
"They sustained minor injuries, but declined hospital treatment."
