THE new temporary Warrington Market is set to open next week, and the Warrington Guardian has been given a behind the scenes look as the finishing touches are made to the development.

On Saturday, September 2, a total of 54 traders will move from Warrington Market into the new temporary hall.

Shoppers will be able to enjoy a bite to eat in the food court while the front desk from the old Warrington Baths also features in the development, being used as premises for key cutters the Kiosk following a restoration process.

The demolition of Warrington Market and construction work on the new permanent hall, facing on to Bridge Street via the old Boots building, will then begin on Monday, September 4.

Andy Ward, project manager of the new Warrington Market, said: “It’s a temporary home, but it’s a fantastic building for the traders to be housed in for two to two-and-a-half years.

“It’s going to be a fantastic boost – we’ve got some fantastic traders in Warrington Market but the environment they’re trading in is not good.

“This is a brand new facility which will be good for the traders and good for the town.

“The building is open to offers for use after the market has moved out – it may be carved up into several restaurants or it may go in its entirety for a leisure usage and there has been some interest in it already.”
