A MAN has been treated in hospital after he was targeted in an acid attack in Lymm.

The 37-year-old man had a ‘corrosive substance’ thrown in his face on Grammar School Road, sustaining injuries to his face, hands and arms.

Cheshire Police have issued an urgent appeal for help in their efforts to track the suspect.

At around 9.20am this morning, Monday, the victim was stood by his vehicle as he worked at an address on Grammar School Road.

He was then approached by another man, and as the victim turned around the suspect threw a corrosive substance in the direction of his face.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Warrington Hospital, and has since been discharged.

Police are looking for a man in his 30s and of eastern European origin in connection with the incident.

He is described as being around 5ft8 and of average build, and was wearing a grey hooded top.

Following the incident, the suspect got into the passenger of a white transit van and drove off in the direction of Higher Lane.

The man and vehicle are believed to have been seen in the Lymm area on Friday, August 4, at around 3.30pm.

It is believed that the alleged offender may have been looking for scrap metal.

Detective sergeant Mark Naylor said: “I want to reassure the local community that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no direct threat to the public.

“Our enquiries are in the early stages and I would urge anyone who may have seen a white van, witnessed what happened or may have seen a man matching this description either on Friday afternoon or this morning to come forward with any information.”
