THE town’s first egg bank for women who are unable to conceive has opened.

Reproductive Health Group in Daresbury has opened a donor egg facility for prospective parents, who will be able to undergo treatments with no waiting lists.

Waiting lists elsewhere in the UK can be up to months or years long.

Eggs will be provided by young and healthy women from the Ukraine.

Donation manager Nikki Francis said: “We are so pleased to establish our very own egg bank, which will give patients access to frozen eggs from a large base of healthy donors.

“We’ve already had some great successes and the best thing is we can match patients within a matter of weeks.

“For some women, using donor eggs may help them achieve pregnancy where otherwise this would not be possible.

“A woman may need to use donated eggs for a number of reasons, including having poor quality eggs of her own, having gone through an early menopause or having undergone cancer treatment.

“Without a donor, they simply would not be able to have children.

"These donors are subject to the same rigorous testing and regulations as they would be if they were from UK donors, and their donation process complies to the HFEA Code of Practice, including UK regulations for anonymity and expenses payments to donors."
