A BUS passenger information system which has helped to 'make journeys easier' has racked up more than 45,700 views.

The system monitors the real time position of the majority of buses operating scheduled services across the borough and sends countdown information of arrivals to 55 digital displays located at a number of popular bus stops.

It also enables passengers to get live information for any of the 1,300 bus stops across the town.

In January – the first month of the service being live – it received 4,156 real time enquiries but the figure increased to 45,764 by the end of May.

Cllr Hans Mundry, executive board member for transport, said: "We are very pleased with the performance of our new real time passenger information system and especially pleased with how popular it has proven to be.

"The investment that we have made in this system is further evidence that we are serious about increasing access to reliable information on sustainable travel options for our residents, businesses and visitors alike."

Ben Wakerley, managing director Network Warrington, added: "I'm delighted to see that this service is being well used by our customers.

"It's encouraging to see that the real time information provided is helping to make journeys easier and we will continue to work with the council to ensure that the service continues to support sustainable travel around the borough."
