DETECTIVES at Cheshire Police dealt with 3,214 reports of vehicle crime in 2016 according to recent figures.

Out of 43 forces, Cheshire Constabulary was ranked in 33rd place with 3,214 victims reporting this type of crime.

The figures were revealed by Click4Reg.co.uk who investigated the total number of vehicles crimes that were recorded by forces across the country using figures from data.police.uk.

The Metropolitan Police in London recorded the highest number of vehicle crimes out of the 43 forces with 89,900 reports.

This was followed by West Midlands Police who received 29,106 vehicle crimes reports and Greater Manchester Police in third place with 24,298. 

At the other end of the scale, City of London Police recorded the lowest number of vehicle-related crimes at 177.

According to the Office of National Statistics 71 per cent of all vehicle thefts occur during the week, 43 per cent of which occur in the evening. 

To avoid falling victim to this type of crime Click4Reg issued advice to tackle the problem.

This included checking all windows and doors are locked, removing all valuable possessions from sight and parking in a well-lit areas.

Motorists are also encouraged to fit a car alarm or steering wheel lock.
