A SPECIALIST officer 'had no concerns' with the standard of fire safety in Kingsway House in Latchford on a visit following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Operational crews, prevention and protection officers have completed precautionary visits at all the 21 high-rise buildings in Cheshire since the blaze, which engulfed the London tower block on June 14.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has advised owners of all high-rise buildings across the county to install sprinkler systems, if the sites are not already fitted with one.

It includes Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT), which owns Kingsway House, off Kingsway South.

GGHT has moved to reassure residents and communities that it has been 'proactively managing the fire safety of the building for many years'.

It has a programme in place to undertake annual fire risk assessments, conducted by independent fire professionals.

The trust said it 'has always acted upon any recommendation made' following a fire risk assessment.

Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, an inspection was undertaken by Cheshire Fire to review the fire safety and fire management procedures that GGHT has in place at Kingsway House.

A specialist officer, from the service's fire prevention and protection team, outlined his findings after the 'robust review of the fire safety arrangements in place'.

He said: "Following my visit on June 21, I had no concerns with the standard of fire safety in the building, or the fire management of the building.

"Fire doors were in good condition, the emergency lighting had been serviced, the dry riser also.

"The fire risk assessment was suitable and sufficient, and of the significant findings detailed in the document, all the high priority actions had been completed.

"With all this in place the 'stay put' policy is the best policy to be adopted for this premises."

GGHT said 'no recommendation' to install a sprinkler system was made by Cheshire Fire during the inspection on June 21, or thereafter, although Cheshire Fire has advised all site owners to do so.

The organisation confirmed it will fully comply with any Government recommendations identified as a result of the incident in London.

A spokeswoman added the trust is 'working hard to reassure residents of Kingsway House – and all Torus properties – that their safety is our priority' at a time when residents of tower blocks across the country are 'understandably concerned about fire safety'.
