BUSINESSES in Padgate have chipped in to help ensure that Padgate Walking Day goes ahead as usual.
The annual tradition, which this year takes place on Saturday, June 24, was in desperate needs of funds to help with marshalling and traffic management.
Participant churches are required to pay £550 for road closures, a cost previously covered by Warrington Borough Council, in addition to insurance and refreshment expenses.
But business in the area, including the Plaice Station, the Famous King and Queen, Alford Hall Sports and Social Club, Best One on Padgate Lane, Thee Plaice and John Oates Garage Services, have clubbed together to raise hundreds of pounds so that the walking day can go ahead.
Parish councillor Bob Taylor said: “We’ve had a fantastic response and these business have really given a bit back.”
