11 things you might not know about Magic Weekend

1 Biggest score Warrington Wolves hold the record for the biggest score in a game. They scored 68 twice, beating Salford in 2010 and Widnes in 2012.

2 Highest attendance The record of 68,276 was set in last year’s event, also held at St James’ Park in Newcastle.

3 Most successful Warrington are the fifth most successful team since the 2007 debut, winning six games. Wigan are the most successful winning seven and drawing one.

4 New look Warrington Wolves will play in a Thor-themed shirt this year which is on sale now

5 Comeback kings Warrington were involved in one of the biggest comebacks in the event in 2008. Trailing 22-6 at half time, four tries in 18 minutes got The Wire back in the game before a Lee Briers winner sealed the points late on.

6 Half price Wire members are entitled to watch Magic Weekend for half price.

7 Top scorer Joel Monaghan holds the record for the most tries in one Magic Weekend match for the Wolves. The Aussie winger scored five times in the 68-4 win over Widnes in 2012.

8 Venues Newcastle is the fourth venue to stage the Magic Weekend after The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Murrayfield in Edinburgh and the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

9 Third time lucky?

Warrington have yet to win at Newcastle after defeats to St Helens in 2015 and Castleford last year. But with five wins in the past six league games, The Wire will be confident of turning that record around.

10 Manchester magic The Etihad proved to be a happy hunting ground for The Wire. Warrington won three out of three when the event was held at the home over Manchester City, beating Widnes in 2012 and St Helens in 2013 and 2014.

11 Top tie Warrington’s clash with Wigan is the headline fixture of the Saturday. It is preceded by Widnes v Wakefield at 2.30pm and Hull v St Helens at 4.45pm.
