LAST month Amazon was announced as the latest big name to move onto Omega in a £30 million deal set to create 1,200 jobs.

The leading e-commerce company has signed up to a 357,000 sq ft unit on the land.

But what other companies are based at the £1 billion site – made up of Omega North and Omega South – which is situated on both sides of the M62 on part of the former Burtonwood airbase?

Hermes

The parcel delivery firm's purpose-built Warrington hub was initially opened in May 2014, costing £14 million.

The second tier, which cost a further £10 million, was completed the following year.

It has allowed Hermes to process up to one million parcels a day on the site.

Approximately 230 employees work at the Warrington hub on an average day – it rises to 650 staff during the peak season.

Travis Perkins

The builders' merchant and home improvement retailer employs almost 400 people in its building.

It has more than 2,000 branches across the UK, with the Warrington facility serving all outlets based in the north of England, as well as Scotland.

The Hut Group

In 2014 the online giant signed up to move to Omega in a £47.5 million deal.

The company chose the 690,000 sq ft retail logistics and manufacturing centre in Warrington ahead of other major locations, including Manchester Airport.

Around 800 people are believed to be employed there currently.

Brakes

In 2013 Brakes was handed the keys to the vast logistics centre at the site, taking up a quarter of Omega North.

The food distributor ships products from its base in the town to areas across the country.

Plastic Omnium

In 2015 the French manufacturing giant was confirmed to move onto Omega.

The car parts manufacturer currently has around 120 plants in more than 30 countries.

Asda

In 2013 Omega Warrington Ltd thrashed out a deal with Asda.

It saw the leading supermarket retailer take up a 618,000 sq ft regional logistics facility on the first plot of Omega South.

Domino's Pizza

Last year Domino's Pizza announced plans to open a 117,000 sq ft pizza supply chain centre in Omega South.

The £30 million deal has created around 120 jobs at the site.

  • A total of 1.1million sq ft of land is available for development for logistics and manufacturing space on Omega.
  • When the site is fully developed, it is estimated that up to 24,000 jobs will have been created.
