MORE black and black and white cats are being taken in by Cats Protection’s Warrington Adoption Centre than any other colour.

The centre in Padgate says out of the 71 unwanted cats they are currently looking after, 35 are black or black and white.

“The unfortunate thing for these cats is that not only do we have more of them coming in, they are also much harder to find homes for.

"They often get overlooked by prospective owners who would rather adopt a more unusual colour, like ginger, or tabby cats which are very popular,” says Ashleigh Cook, senior cat care assistant.

National figures from the charity show on average black and black and white cats wait around a week longer to be rehomed than other coloured moggies.

Staff at the charity are keen to highlight monochrome moggies have just as much love to give and make equally good companions as any other colour cat.

Examples include friendly 4-year-old Casper, who was taken to the centre after his owner left him behind when they moved.

Staff say he would suit a variety of different homes and has lots of affection to give to his new family.

Female cat Dino, aged seven, is a cheeky, independent lady on the lookout for a new home after her previous owner was also moving away and was unable to take her along.

The centre will also be hosting a‘Crafting for Kitties’ fair on Saturday, April 1, from 11am to 3pm.

As well as a variety of craft stalls to appeal to all ages, visitors can treat themselves to delicious home-made cakes and biscuits from the refreshment stall or join in a range of exciting activities.
