A COUPLE from Lymm have launched a crowdfunding campaign as they look to launch their third game designed to improve kids’ maths skills.

Lisa and Ian McCartney set up PLYT Games after designing a game in order to improve their own children Tom and Ella’s maths skills eight years ago, before launching it on to the retail market.

Their games are now being sold across Europe and in the USA.

Former chartered accountant Lisa said: “We’re not board game manufacturers really - we just made this game to help our own children with maths and it worked so well that their school asked what we were doing.

“Ian had to take some time off work, so he made some prototypes which I took into schools.

“The schools in Lymm absolutely loved them, and one of the heads said every child should have a copy of this game - so we thought we’d better make it.

“We’re passionate about trying to get people playing face-to-face together because loads of people are on their technology all the time, but board games are a really nice way of getting the family together and they can be education at the same time.”

Having launched their National Numeracy-endorsed second game NumBugz, a seven-in-one travel game, in January, Lisa and Ian are now hoping to crowdfund £10,000 in order to launch maths card game Whotchilli.

Lisa added: “For our third game we’re trying to crowdfund on Kickstarter, which is a bit new for us.

“It’s a family card game and what we’re really trying to do is give people value for money.

“NumBugs is seven games in one and Whotchilli will be three games in one.

“Rather than just buying a product and playing it then putting it in the cupboard, we will keep bringing out new games for the titles.

“The games in Whotchilli are either using logic or strategy and there are obviously numbers involved, because we’re all about numbers.”

The campaign runs Saturday, April 15 - click here for more information.
