FREEMASONS from across the region descended on St Elphin's Church in Howley to celebrate the creation of the first Grand Lodge in the world 300 years ago.
Freemasonry, which is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual value, remains in operation in the town with the 14 lodges meeting at Warrington Masonic Hall in Winmarleigh Street in the town centre.
The oldest lodge still meets in Warrington after it was founded in 1765.
The celebration at St Elphin’s Church was attended by the provincial grand master Tony Harrison and his wife Maureen along with hundreds of others from Warrington, Wigan, Widnes and Liverpool.
