HOPEFUL young chefs have scooped the silver medal at an international cookery competition.

The catering students from Warrington Collegiate worked hard to put together a delicious four course meal in under 90 minutes for judges at the Welsh International Culinary Championships.

The college’s chef lecturer, Scott Surtees, captained the team alongside students Russell Wood, Jack Vance and Anthony Goble.

Jack, who helped prepare the meal which included cured and flame-torched mackerel as well as chicken with truffled leeks, said: “Coming second against professional catering colleges was amazing. It’s the first time we have entered a competition and we really showed off our ability and what we can do.”

Scott added: “I am so proud of Jack, Russ and Anthony. For us to come in second place and win the silver medal at our first ever competition is just incredible.

“We did ourselves proud.”
