A CARE home worker has been honoured with a national award.

Lisa McLaughlin has been named Activity Coordinator of the Year at the National Care Awards.

She was presented with her award by Boyzone singer and former Coronation Street actor Keith Duffy during a ceremony in London.

Judges said that in her role at Belong Warrington Care Village in Latchford, Lisa's delivery of personalised activity provision for residents was 'exceptional'.

Lisa had also trained around 450 people in the wider community to improve their awareness and understanding of dementia, something that judges said 'set her apart in a strong field'.

Colleagues at the Loushers Lane home labelled her a 'true people person' who had provided a 'diverse and inclusive' programme of events for residents, including gardening, exercise and dancing.

They added that she had been 'instrumental' in the home's experience days service, which enable members of the wider community to participate in activities while giving carers a break.

Janine Curwell, general manager at Belong Warrington Care Village, said: "I am delighted that Lisa's hard work has been recognised by being named Activity Coordinator of the Year by industry expert judges.

"She is sensitive and aware of people's needs and moods and resourceful in adapting her activities and strategies to cater for these."
