A RESIDENT who tried to report a bin full of dog waste outside a children’s playground in Saxon Park said he was shocked by the council’s response.

The man, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s just a bin that needs emptying. I know kids don’t play outside as much in the winter but it is still horrible.

“If the council want us to clean up after our dogs then help us by emptying the bins.”

The resident, who lives near the park in Sankey Bridges, contacted the council on November 25 and was told a Street Scene Officer would visit the area within 10 working days and any work would take place in the following six to eight weeks.

He was told that if the work was of ‘high importance,’ it may be carried out sooner.

But a council spokesman said the email was an automatic response to enquiries and that it is not the council’s responsibility to empty that particular bin, but the job of a nearby house development company.

He confirmed that the developers have been made aware of the problem and a contractor is expected to empty the rubbish before the weekend.

The council recently announced that it is determined to tackle the problem of dog fouling after 71 incidents were reported in 2015 and there were 213 requests for signs to deter people from leaving their dog’s mess.
