POLICE are asking for help after burglars locked a mum-of-two out of her home in Bewsey so they could steal her jewellery.

The woman left her house on High Gates Close at around 5.30pm on November 24 to go to the shop with her children.

She returned about 20 minutes later but when she tried to open the front door, she discovered the chain had been put on from the inside of the house.

The victim was locked out and could hear voices inside her home.

She shouted for help from neighbours and when she eventually managed to get back inside her home, she discovered a large amount of jewellery had been stolen and the burglars had fled through the back door.

Investigation officer PC Laura Hall said: “We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry in relation to the incident and I am keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have any information in relation to this case.

“As part of the investigation I am also keen to trace a man who was seen acting suspiciously near to the scene of the incident shortly before the crime took place.

“The man is described as white, mid-twenties, approximately 5ft 9 inches tall, and of skinny build. The man was wearing a dark coloured hoody, dark jeans and had a distinctive scouse accent."

Officers are also looking for a silver estate van with a roof rack, which was seen entering and leaving the area around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information should call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 733 of 24/11/2016 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
