A NINE-year-old girl who has raised thousands of pounds for charity was awarded the Child of the Year prize at the Warrington Guardian Inspiration Awards 2016.

Erin Eaves has been on a mission to raise funds for Reverse Rett inspired by her favourite rugby league player Gareth O’ Brien, who is an ambassador for the charity.

The Padgate youngster’s feats include cycling 10-and-a-half miles, 10k and one-mile runs and a six-hour bag pack.

She has also written to companies across the UK in order to secure prize for the charity, which she then auctioned off via Facebook.

Reverse Rett funds research into Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder that strikes healthy young girls between their second and first birthdays – the condition can leave sufferers unable to speak or walk.

Erin’s mum Kate said: “I’m very proud of Erin, she works so hard.”
