WARRINGTON played a key role in a training operation organised to ensure RAF support helicopters are ready for service across the globe this week.
Residents in the town spotted two military aircrafts flying above their eyes yesterday, Wednesday.
Both helicopters landed at Victoria Park just after 4.30pm before setting off to the skies again seconds later.
It caused quite a stir on social media, with many speculating about the reason for their presence, but an RAF spokesman clarified the situation.
He said: "To ensure we have the skills required for operations worldwide, RAF support helicopters, aircraft and crews, fly all over the UK and use designated helicopter landing sites for routine training on a daily basis.
"This is what has been seen in the north west over the last few days."
