A YOUNG Warrington Wolves fan had a happy ending to his Saturday night despite his team’s defeat in the Super League Grand Final after his hero Chris Sandow gave him his boots following the final hooter.

Seven-year-old Dylan Birchall went home happy in spite of the 6-12 defeat to Wigan Warriors after star halfback Sandow gave the youngster his magic boots.

Dylan, who lives in Chapelford, proudly sports the Australian’s name on the back of his Warrington Wolves shirt and has been proudly showing off his new prized possession.

Dad Adam Birchall said: “When he took his boots over to Dylan he just burst into tears and I ran over and gave him a hug.

“It was a nice end to the night despite the result.

“Dylan was absolutely made up and he didn’t expect it at all – Sandow is one of his favourite players as well and he has him on the back of his shirt.

“He’s been going down our road and showing all his mates and our neighbours the boots so he’s well made up on them.”

Warrington Guardian:

Dad Adam was one of a party of six who walked from the Halliwell Jones Stadium to Old Trafford in order to raise money for former player Simon Grix ahead of the big game.

Grix’s two-year-old daughter Keeva was diagnosed with cancer of the liver in April, and the walkers managed to raise more than £1,500 for the family.

Adam added: “I’m hoping it will make a massive difference so that they don’t have to worry about money.

“Unfortunately I lost my mum to cancer seven years ago so I’ve seen what it can do to families and how much of a strain it can have, so I’m hoping this will make a big difference.

“The walk was painful but it was nice to do it.

“When we were walking along we were getting plenty of beeps so people obviously knew what we were walking for.

“I was posting updates on Facebook throughout the day and the way everyone has got behind it was brilliant.”
