NOBODY was more surprised than the band themselves when an old album track by nineties pop trio 911 went viral on YouTube.

The track, I Do, was written by pop star Jimmy Constable for his own wedding and it has racked up millions of views online, even though it has never been released as a single.

Now the band are back with plans to release the track and they have been rehearsing at a dance studio in Latchford for a one night only show in Manchester later this month.

During a rehearsal at Team Prince Studios just off Knutsford Road, Jimmy, Simon ‘Spike’ Dawbarn and Lee Brennan explained the story behind I Do.

“I had the idea because I got married back in 2009 and I’d written a lot of it. We took it back into the studio with the guys and we changed quite a bit,” said Jimmy.

“I wrote it really to walk down the aisle and didn’t have it done in time so we ended up putting it on the album. It’s got real meaning.

“It’s been great, there’s been so many messages – I’m quite shocked at how many people have used it for their wedding song.”

Spike, from Orford, said the band recorded I Do three years ago and were surprised when a record company got in touch inviting them to put it out as a single.

He said: “It shocked us when it got all the views, we hadn’t done a music video it was just the lyrics. It’s gone absolutely nuts. You’ve got people covering it with guitars in their bedrooms and stuff.”

The trio stepped back into the limelight in 2012 when they took part in ITV’s The Big Reunion, which led to a nationwide tour alongside other chart-topping bands.

Now they are set for their own show, 911 The Party, at Manchester Academy on October 28, which promises to be a night of nineties hits.

Jimmy said: “It’s great just for the nostalgia, the people who turn up to gigs you can see that they just want to relive being 16 again and remember when there was posters on the wall.

“It will be a nostalgic night for them, they’ll be going mental just because they’ve been let out the house for one night and are listening to some of the nineties songs again that they remember.”

Spike confessed to being nostalgic for the era before social media when the trio were at the height of their fame with top ten songs including Don't Make Me Wait, Bodyshakin’, Private Number and A Little Bit More.

“We were lucky, our era was so lucky in the nineties because it was just an absolute cult and with the followings you had you couldn’t even leave hotels,” he said.

“It was like you couldn’t go to the shop, you were a bit of a prisoner but there was a big buzz around, it was good.”

Jimmy added: “It’s quite nerve-wracking as well because the music business isn’t the same is it?

“When we first started we had to get like 10,000 flyers printed and get somebody to give them out and now it’s like one tweet.

“We’re older now so we have to tone it down because the body can’t take it anymore but it’s still good fun and we’re still enjoying it. We’re very lucky to still be in this business and still be able to do it.”
