WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat has condemned Labour's pledge to ban fracking in the UK – and sided with the GMB Union's view on the controversial issue.
Shadow energy secretary Barry Gardiner said a future Labour Government would ban fracking.
But Mr Mowat fears such a move would be detrimental to the country.
He said: "Regardless of who is in Government, the UK will need gas for at least the next 20 years.
"I'd rather see those production jobs in the UK than Russia, Qatar or any of the other places we will need to buy gas from.
"It's not often I am in agreement with the GMB Union, but when it comes to Labour's ban on drilling, I couldn't put it any better than the GMB leader who asked which 'henchmen, hangmen and head-choppers' we'd prefer to buy our gas from instead?"
