ROADWORKS which have caused misery to motorists are finally due to finish tomorrow, Thursday.

Emergency repairs to gas pipes on Winwick Road started two weeks ago and were expected to be finished within days.

But the complex nature of the problem, plus a burst water main during the work means it has still not finished.

The National Grid, which has been carrying out the work, is now making good progress but it has still not been completed.

Council bosses say they are continuing to work with the organisation and has granted a further extension.

A council spokesman said: "While the council understands the complexity of the work, it is also mindful of the on-going disruption to residents and businesses.

"The council is urging National Grid to complete this work as quickly as possible and is pleased that their operatives have carried out long shift work and work throughout the weekend."

It is now expected the National Grid will complete the works by Thursday and the council has confirmed the National Grid will pay for all aspects of the work.

The council deployed extra staff to the site on Friday to manage the flow of traffic before and after the Warrington Wolves v Wigan Warriors Super League clash.
