ALDI has responded after a shopper claimed 'ignorant' staff continued with their 'idle chit chat' while serving customers.
A customer tweeted Aldi with his concerns last Tuesday following a visit to the chain's Stockton Heath shop, on Walton Road.
He tweeted: "How ignorant when staff on the tills in @AldiUK carry on a conversation on headsets while serving customers.
"Wouldn't mind but it was idle chit chat, not even work-related. This isn't the first time, we shop there a lot."
The discount supermarket chain said it was 'sorry to hear' about the customer's experience and confirmed it was going to pass feedback onto the Stockton Heath store.
An Aldi spokesman has since highlighted the benefits of the headsets, which are meant to be used for 'internal, work-related conversations only'.
He said: "Using headsets makes it quicker and easier for our employees on checkouts and in the aisles to communicate with each other, thereby improving efficiency and customer service.
"Aldi employee headsets allow in-store communication between colleagues only and cannot be used to make external calls."
