A CARE worker and her 14-year-old granddaughter have had their heads shaved together to raise more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Trish and Monique Bennett raised a grand total of £1,100 when they got the chop in front of family and friends at the Warrington Irish Club on Orford Lane.

The pair had their heads shaved by friend Kelly Delooze-Smith, who recently passed her college hairdressing course, and also held a family fun day with entertainment, a bouncy castle and treats to mark the occasion.

Grandma Trish, 51, said: “I decided to do the head shave as a tribute to my family and friends who have passed away with cancer and for family who are in remission from cancer.

“My granddaughter wanted to do it last year but her mum wouldn’t let her – this time she thought Monique was old enough to make her own decision.”

Carewatch Warrington, the homecare provider who Trish works for, donated £500 on top of the total raised by Trish and Monique.

Ria Lyon, care manager at Carewatch Warrington, said: “We are incredibly proud of Trish and Monique for their bravery – delivering care and support services ourselves we understand the work and research related charities do and how vital it is to help them continue.

“This is why we do our utmost to raise funds at every available opportunity.”

Trish has been working for Carewatch Warrington, which looks after vulnerable adults, for 18 months.

She added: “My clients are lovely – I worked in several jobs but needed something different.

“I’m glad I did care work and I’m hoping I continue to do this for some time.”
