THE Mayor of Warrington has launched the first Mayoral Achievement Awards and is calling on the public to nominate worthy winners.

Mayor Cllr Faisal Rashid (LAB – Chapelford and Old Hall) has created the awards, which will run throughout the year, to recognise 'deserving citizens'.

The first categories are being launched this month and residents can be nominated in three sections, with awards set to recognise a 'wonderful' volunteer, a young entrepreneur and a community champion.

Cllr Rashid said: "There are so many people in Warrington who are unsung heroes and this is my way of making sure we recognise their work.

"This is just the start – we will have more awards over the course of my mayoral year to celebrate the people of Warrington."

Nominations close on August 31.

The winners will be presented with their award at a Town Hall ceremony on September 27.
