ALL pupils at Stockton Heath Primary School got their sports kit on as part of a week-long initiative aimed at promoting physical activity and health.

The project, which started on June 20, fell in line with National Sports Week and gave youngsters at the school, on West Avenue, the chance to participate in a variety of sports.

It culminated with the launch of a '100-mile challenge' event run by Active Cheshire and New Balance.

Pupils will receive pedometers in September to calculate the distance travelled each day on the way to collectively smashing the ambitious target.

Deputy head teacher Jennie McAleny, who has been at the school for nine years, said pupils are 'buzzing' to officially get started.

She added: "The children absolutely loved the sports week – it was a great way to encourage them to get more active.

"But staff and parents got involved too, which was nice to see.

"We really want to thank Active Cheshire and New Balance for their support. The pupils want to get started with the challenge right away."

During the week kids got the chance to take part in activities including self-defence classes, gymnastics and rugby drills.

Former pupil and cricketer Rob Jones, 20, who has starred for England under 19s, also visited to deliver a question and answer session.
