A COUPLE whose wedding was set to take place on the same date as the Challenge Cup Final have reorganised their special day as they are so confident Warrington Wolves will be playing under the Wembley Stadium arch.

Wire super fans Stephanie Percival and Matthew George were due to get married on Saturday August 27 – the same day that the Challenge Cup Final will be played at Wembley Stadium.

The couple, who live metres away from the Halliwell Jones Stadium on St Peter’s Way in Orford, are so confident that Warrington will be featuring in the showpiece game that they moved the date of their wedding – even before they had beaten Widnes Vikings in the cup quarter finals.

Warrington still have to beat Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in the semi-finals at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday July 30 if they are to make it to Wembley.

Stephanie, 24, said: “We realised that the dates clashed when we were on the coach on the way to the Oldham game in the Challenge Cup.

“My uncle said it was on the same day and he said we’re going to have to change it – we didn’t want to miss the game.

“All the family wanted me to push it back as well as they’re all big fans.

“We rang the vicar to change it a couple of weeks ago, before we had even played Widnes, because we were that sure that we were going to get through to the final.

“I’m sure we will get through but you never know.”

The couple went for a Nando’s after Matthew, 23, popped the question by the Eastgate clock in Chester in November 2014 and they have lost more than £1,000 by moving their wedding, which will be held at the Fir Grove Hotel in Grappenhall, to Saturday August 20.

But seeing Chris Hill and Tony Smith lifting the famous Challenge Cup trophy aloft seven days later would be the perfect honeymoon, although they might not actually be able to go to the game as Stephanie recently broke her elbow.

It’s not the first time that the Stephanie has gone to great lengths to follow her team though – she went to Old Trafford to watch Warrington take on Wigan Warriors in the Grand Final in 2013 on the day that her daughter Erica was due to be born.

Stephanie and Matthew met at Beamont Community Primary School at the age of three and also went to Woolston High School together, but the pair drifted apart when she joined the army.

Happily they got back together two-and-a-half years ago after Stephanie left the forces in order to be with Matthew.
