A SPORTS-mad teen is starring in a new Nike advert for this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament alongside football hero Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bewsey resident Ryan Dunning features in the mammoth sport brand’s six-minute-long ad alongside the Portugal and Real Madrid superstar.

The commercial sees a young ball boy swap bodies with Ronaldo, a former Manchester United favourite, after a collision between the pair during a game.

Ryan went down to Sheffield in February to take part in the five days of shooting for the advert which has appeared on television in the past few weeks.

It now appears regularly during commercial breaks in coverage of the tournament.

Shirley Dunning, mum of the former Penketh High School student, said: “Ryan has always been sports mad.

“He does a coaching course at Penketh sixth form called David Campbell Soccer which is run by a footballer who used to play for Northern Ireland and Nottingham Forest.

“All the students who do the course were given the opportunity to go down to Sheffield in February to audition and he went for it.

“He didn’t know what it was, he just knew it was for a sports brand.

“He was the only one on the course who went down for it and he went straight through.

“It was only the day before filming when Ryan found out what it was for.

“We had to sign a contract saying we’d keep it a secret until the advert was released.

“We had told a few friends and close family but nobody apart from that.

“I bet his friends are all wishing they’d bothered to go for the audition now – he has done really well.”

The 17-year-old is hoping to make a career out of the beautiful game in the future, with plans to travel to the USA in order to gain a sports scholarship or coach football.
