THE procession at Lymm May Queen festival marched on through the village despite being hit by torrential rain yesterday, Saturday.
Moments after the parade officially set off from Lymm Hotel, on Whitbarrow Road, the downpour came lashing down.
But spirits remained high and soaked youngsters even carried out their own rendition of 'if you're happy and you know it'.
Families turned out in their numbers for the annual event, which marked the crowning of two new queens.
Eva Cope, 10, is this year's May Queen, while Eleanor Lawton, nine, holds the title of Rose Queen.
Town crier Peter Powell launched the procession – a role he admits he was honoured to carry out.
"It is marvellous to see everyone come out together, the participation from the people of Lymm is very good," he said.
"It is a delight to be here. One of my favourite parts to the day is to hear the band playing – it can get very lonely at the front of the procession.
"The hardest thing, for me, is probably to keep my voice throughout it all.
"I have done this for a number of years and I always say it is something which I enjoy doing and really look forward to.
"In previous years, a while back, there were not as many people attending and I remember the roads did not need to be closed.
"But it keeps getting bigger and is a truly wonderful event, I expect it to keep bringing people together."
The theme for the day was 'space, sci-fi and Star Wars', which resulted in a variety of colourful costumes being displayed from school children and groups.
