ORFORD residents have raised concerns over street parking that has been labelled ‘an accident waiting to happen’.

‘Numerous’ complaints have been made to businesses in the vicinity of North Avenue and South Avenue by residents due to the number of their employees who park on these and other nearby roads.

Residents have given reports of workers parking in front of their driveways and close to junctions, risking accidents – leading them to leave notes on the windscreens of their vehicles.

Wayne Hewitt lives on Vale Avenue, having called the area home for 53 years, while his daughter Anna lives on South Avenue.

He said: “The problem is that these people have no respect for their neighbours and just park across driveways in front of the houses.

“I’ve complained numerous times but they don’t seem interested – they have access to the Decathlon car park and some use it but others don’t bother because it’s further away for them to walk.

“It’s got worse because they seem to employ more people now.

“My wife looks after a disabled lady and sometimes we can’t even get near her house to park and they park across my daughter’s driveway so she can’t get in.”

On occasion, the disabled woman has been forced to walk more than 200m from the car to her front door due to people being parked outside her house.

Wayne said that the situation at present is an ‘accident waiting to happen’ but suggested the situation could be partially-remedied by the introduction of parking permits.

He added: “The side-streets like Shaw’s Avenue are just an accident waiting to happen with people parking right up to the junction, so you can’t see anything.

“In some of the other streets they have parking permits which would help.”
