A TEAM of dancers will be flying to America after being selected to represent the UK in an international competition in Florida in 2017. 

Two teams from IndepenDANCE, which is based in Evans House on Norman Street, entered the hip hop category in the BCA Super Classic Dance competition at the Newcastle Metro Arena on Sunday, May 29. 

The junior team, which comprises of dancers aged 15 and under, were awarded second place after competing against eight other dance groups.

The senior team made up of dancers over 15 were presented with third place after battling it out against 12 other dance crews.

The senior team were also selected to represent their country in Orlando next year.

Jennifer Gittins, founder, said: “I am extremely proud of all the dancers who took part in this competition.

"I think this is one of the hardest competitions we have entered and to come top three in both categories is amazing.

"I would also like to thank Abbie Jarvis who has helped me train both of these teams.

"We are now looking for sponsorship and ways to raise money for the team that is competing in Florida 2017."

A recruitment drive has also been launched to find dancers for the next competition.
