MEET the trio of volunteers who have been helping out at a Culcheth care home for a combined total of 61 years.

Ruth Briggs, Beryl Charlton and Muriel Domville have been chipping in at Holcroft Grange for more than six decades collectively.

Muriel, 72, has served 16 years, 81-year-old Beryl has volunteered for 21 years while Ruth, 84, has helped out at the Jackson Avenue home for an amazing 24 years.

The trio assist staff and residents with activities including arts and crafts, quizzes and board games during their regular visits.

A former volunteer at Newchurch Hospital in Culcheth, Muriel was introduced to Holcroft Grange by friends.

She said: “I love coming in to chat and seeing what a difference it makes, especially when families are not able to come in.

“It’s wonderful listening to the residents talk about what activities they’ve been doing through the week.”

Ruth previously volunteered with Age Concern and Meals on Wheels and she encouraged others to try their hand at helping out.

She said: “It’s very rewarding – anyone who is interested should pop in and give it a go.

“I think they would enjoy it – I certainly have.”

Home manager Shirley Paton added: “The residents really look forward to their visits and have done for many years.

“Everyone at Holcroft Grange would like to say a huge thank you to them for all their hard work and effort.”

“We’d love to get more volunteers like Ruth, Beryl and Muriel who always have a kind word and a smile for everyone.

“We receive a lot of help from selfless volunteer who have a really positive impact on the lives of our residents.

“Even something as simple as playing a board game or having a cup of tea and a chat can make a huge difference.”
