KIND-hearted fighters who took part in a championship fight show have raised thousands of pounds for a two-year old girl who is battling cancer.

Molly Egerton, from Latchford, was diagnosed with cancer on one of her kidneys which spread to her lung and other kidney.

She is due to have surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London with the help of money raised by the Daniel Wade legacy project, which organised the fight show.

The legacy project was created in memory of Latchford soldier Private Daniel Wade, who was killed in Afghanistan while serving his country in 2012 at the age of 20.

David Hamilton, Daniel’s uncle, established the memorial group and organised the fight show at Alford Sports & Social Club which raised £5500 towards Molly's treatment.

Molly’s father, Stephen, said: “It was a brilliant show and I am so grateful that Molly was involved.

“It was really, really kind and very much unexpected. We are so grateful for the support and kindness.

“Thank you to everyone involved in the Daniel Wade Legacy for the support. We are overwhelmed by the amazing kindness.”

Experienced fighters from across the area fought under the Freestyle Fighting Championship banner to compete for championship belts.

There were 11 fights in total and MC Charlie Hale auctioned his own items of sporting memorabilia to raise an extra £400 towards Molly’s care.

Molly’s father fought in a previous charity fight show in 2014 to raise money for Orford toddler Bobby Brown, who was born with a degenerative eye problem.

Organiser David Hamilton said: “Molly's dad fought on that show and won a title belt so is one of our current FFC champions but as with all our fighters it shows the kind of people they are to fight on these shows in aid of others.

"On a personal level for the family, this is about keeping Daniel's name living on proudly and I know that having a fight tournament named in his honour and also fund raising for others would make him extremely proud."

The Daniel Wade Legacy project has raised more than £16,000 since it was established and David is hoping to surpass the £20,000 mark after further events in June.
