SHOWBAR has had its opening hours altered again after it appealed against conditions imposed upon it after a man was left with ‘life threatening’ injuries when he was glassed in the venue.

The Friars Gate nightclub was forced to temporarily shut its doors after a man was glassed in the face and neck in the early hours of February 7 during a night out.

He was left with ‘life threatening’ injuries, including a deep 15cm long gash on the side of his face which required 25 stitches and a deep laceration to his upper left chest that also needed stitches – the man could be scarred for life.

A 22-year-old man from Latchford, who was described as ‘very intoxicated’ at the time of the incident’, will appear at Halton Magistrates Court on May 10 accused of grievous bodily harm.

The nightclub reopened following a review hearing on March 3 but its owners were unhappy when its licensing hours were cut from 4am to 2am and it was forced to shut its doors by 3am.

Warrington Magistrates Court heard an appeal to the conditions by S&S Leisure NW Ltd yesterday, Wednesday April 27.

The court heard that a number of incidents of crime had been noted at the venue, including an escalation in disorder throughout its opening hours.

But ‘productive’ out-of-court discussions between Showbar, who were unrepresented at the appeal, Cheshire Police and Trading Standards have resulted in a ‘satisfactory agreement’.

The bar will now be licensed until 3am and will be forced to close by 3.30am.

A number of other conditions have been imposed on the club, including the use of plastic glasses, no under 18 events at the venue and radio-linked bars.
