IT was like coming home for Rick Astley on Tuesday night.

The 80s icon performed to a packed house at the Parr Hall in his first full concert in the town for more than 30 years.

And his mentor Pete Waterman and mum were among the audience.

The crowd were treated to old favourites and new material with his biggest hit Never Gonna Give You Up getting the biggest reception during the encore.

He also performed a surprise version of Bruno Mars hit Uptown Funk and mentioned the former Mr Smith's nightclub where he performed in his early days.

Despite growing up in Newton, the 50-year-old has never performed a full concert in Warrington and the last time he was at the Parr Hall was before he dominated the charts.

"Just the idea of playing at the Parr Hall is wild," Rick told Guardian earlier this year.

"The Stone Roses playing their reunion gig there made it cool and obviously they’ve spent money on it.

"But it was always a pretty amazing venue. The building itself is quite incredible "I remember going in as a kid and we played in a couple of battle of the bands there. I was with my friends in a band called FBI – and we won.

"I think it was one of the first times Pete Waterman saw me. He was one of the judges."
