PRIMARY school teachers from Warrington are jumping for joy after winning the £1 million Lotto jackpot.

At first the group of thirty winners from Simms Cross Primary School in Widnes thought it was an April Fool’s joke when they heard the good news on Friday.

The lucky winners will each receive £33,333 and are planning to spend the money on holidays, new cars and clothes.

Clare Whitwham, 41, from Great Sankey, is a teaching assistant at the school and said she could not believe the good news.

“You never actually believe it will happen to you – once I got the picture of the ticket and checked the numbers I started to believe it, but it took a few people to convince me.

“It’s amazing! We have been playing as a syndicate for the last ten years but we have not really won anything before.

“The thought of it makes me feel a bit shaky but my family were all thrilled.”

Clare, who has a five-year-old son, also revealed that she is not the only lottery winner living on her road in Great Sankey and said it must be one of the luckiest streets in Warrington.

She celebrated the good news by taking her family out for a special meal and said she was also planning to spend some of the money on decorating her home.

“It’s going to be put away for a long time while we decide how we are going to use it – I’m a bit boring but I’m being cautious.

“I’m not going out to buy a new car yet like some of my colleagues!

“We are going on holiday to Portugal later this year and it feels great now because I can have a really good time."

Other winners from Warrington included 23-year-old teacher Andrew Carney, from Lymm, and 51-year-old admin assistant, Pauline Coulston, from Great Sankey.

The syndicate, a mixture of teachers, teaching assistants and clerical staff, has been playing the lotto for 17 years.

Their biggest win until now was £100.

The newest syndicate member, teacher Andrew Carney, 23, from Lymm, only joined in January.

He is saving up for a house with his girlfriend.
