A 40-year-old man has been detained after a stabbing on Wilderspool Causeway on Thursday night.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault after two men, aged 30 and 35, suffered serious injuries during the attack.

While both men remain in hospital, police say their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 23-year-old woman has been released from hospital after suffering minor injuries.

An investigation was launched after police were called to a house on Wilderspool Causeway at 9.10pm on Thursday, March 10, following reports of a disturbance.

Paramedics attended the scene to deal with the casualties.

The block of terraced houses was cordoned off while detectives examined the crime scene.

Investigating officer detective sergeant Gordon Wilson said: “I would like to reassure the public that we are not looking to trace anyone else in relation to the assault itself.

"However we are keen to speak to anyone who believes that they may have witnessed the disturbance.

“Wilderspool Causeway is a busy road and we are keen to speak to anyone who was passing through the area around Brian Bevan Island and believes that they may have seen this incident taking place.”

Officers are not currently looking to trace anyone else in relation to the incident.
